Originally from Northern Illinois, Jeffrey Ryan earned a Bachelor of Science in English Writing while minoring in Art and Design specializing in Photography at Northern Michigan University. Shortly after graduating, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard where he served throughout continental United States; his first duty station was a polar icebreaker, USCGC Polar Sea (WAGB 11), where he received the Arctic Service Medal for Maritime Domain Awareness Operations in the high Arctic Sea.
After being selected to attend Intelligence Specialist A-School, he was assigned to a joint task force as an intelligence analyst providing target identification and development used in support of inter-agency operations against illicit trafficking in Central and South America. During this time, he advanced to Second Class Petty Officer and became the first Coast Guard member to become an Adjunct Faculty member at the National Cryptologic School at Ft Mead, Maryland teaching Analytic Method and Graph Theory. During his time at the task force, he received a Letter of Commendation from the Serious Organized Crime Agency (SOCA) in the United Kingdom, he was recognized as Military Performer of the Year by the National Security Agency, and received the Commandant’s Letter of Commendation from the Coast Guard Cryptologic Group.
When Jeffrey transitioned from military service, he began his civilian career as a Development Analyst at the Health Care Service Corporation where he was responsible for analyzing internal operational data in support of the Quality Assessment and Improvement department, Sales Delivery and Operations division, and Government Programs. He received an enterprise 5-Star award for his analytical work on a multi-department team implementing the New Mexico Medicaid system overhaul. Additionally, he advanced to the role of Senior Analytics and Reporting analyst responsible for forecasting and providing senior leadership with insights into future membership trending.
In continuation of his commitment to the armed forces, he served as President and Executive Director of The Hearthstone Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization he created to aide veterans with their housing needs. The organization focuses on educating service-members on their earned VA housing benefits, proactive VA certification of urban housing, and fostering community development for veterans and their families within urban communities.
He has completed two graduate degrees at DePaul University, a Master of Public Policy and a Graduate Certificate in Metropolitan Planning and Development. During his time at DePaul University, he led three teams of multi-disciplinary analysts competing in regional policy and analytically based competitions. Additionally, he has been a panelist at the annual Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA) conference where he discussed the use of evidence-based research methods in policy research and how those practices can be improved to provide greater results to practical policy initiatives.
Most recently, he joined the StoreCare team at Walgreens as a data analyst performing data validation and advanced analysis on a work order system used for facilities maintenance management. These analytics include creating financial and operational metrics related to reactive and recurring maintenance services. These reports are used to identify trends and make recommendations to leadership aimed at lowering overall costs, driving operational efficiency, standardizing processes and improving overall quality throughout the enterprise.
